The Security Management Office (SMO)

About: The Security Management Office provides the faculty and staff of the University of Illinois the opportunity to secure funding and perform joint operations in the classified domain. The SMO is a full-service operation with the capacity to manage personnel clearances, host classified contracts, and promote collaboration with other cleared facilities.

University personnel security clearances are managed by the SMO under the guidance of the Cognizant Security Authority. For collaboration and storage of classified information, the office manages the accredited Special Research Facility (SRF). Please contact our office for detailed rates.

 

Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI): The Security Management Office provides guidance for contracts that require CUI compliance (DFARS 252.204-7012 Safeguarding Covered Defense Information and Cyber Incident Reporting).

 

Defense Industrial Base (DIB) Cybersecurity Program: The Security Management Office provides the infrastructure and system requirements for the University of Illinois to participate in the DIBnet program. This program is focused on protecting intellectual property and safeguarding DoD content residing on or transitiing through, contractor unclassified networks. DCISE develops and shares actionable threat products, performs cyber analysis and diagnostics, and provides remediation consultation for DIB participants.
